Leave No Child Inside
On June 22, The Vehe Farm Foundation is planning an exciting summer event for Vehe Farm: "Leave No Child Inside--Bringing to the Barrington/Lake Zurich Area the National Dialogue on Nature-Deficit Disorder".
The Foundation has joined a national effort to encourage children to spend more unstructured nature based time outside. The program is for parents, children, and area civic, business, education, recreation, and faith-based leaders. While the adults are listening to speakers in the areas of conservation, nature, medicine, and landscape architecture, Citizens for Conservation will engage children with nature-based play activities.
Chicago Wilderness, a consortium of more than 200 member organizations, sponsors Leaves No Child Inside (LNCI) locally. The consortium launched its multi-year LNCI campaign for the Chicago area in 2007, becoming one of more than three-dozen initiatives nationwide aimed at reconnecting children with nature.
Program Speakers
Marty Kenahan, Leave No Child Inside Regional Coordinator, Chicago Wilderness
Dr. Everett Weiss, Pediatric Specialists Northwest

Children's Activities
During the program, Citizens for Conservation will lead children in nature-based play activities on Vehe Farm grounds and in the
barn's education space. The Little Garden Club of Barrington will
also be leading children through the Betty McLaughlin Memorial Butterfly Garden.
This event is made possible with a generous grant from the
Barrington Area Community Foundation. |
The Foundation is seeking volunteers to help with the LNCI initiative. Please call (847) 331-0967 if you are interested in participating in this multi-community event. We are also looking for private sponsors to cover the many costs of the event. The funding for this event will come solely from private and corporate donations, in addition to grant funding. Check back additional information, a list of speakers, and the invitation coming in May.
